We met the Danish actor Besir Zeciri, 32, a Tuesday morning at Nørrebro in Copenhagen, not far from his home where he lives with his wife and their little son.
This resulted in an uplifting portrait and a conversation about his upbringing, sources of inspiration, career, and personal style.
Where did you grow up and what was it like growing up there?
I grew up in Avedøre Stationsby. It was a great place to grow up! I played a lot of football, and I was a happy kid who liked going to school.
Why did you become an actor?
I probably became an actor because I grew up surrounded by many different destinies and was confronted with all kinds of people throughout my upbringing. Some of them struggled with alcoholism and substance abuse, others with less serious things, and diversity dominated. It made me curious about the world and why people end up the way they do. To understand the strange existences, in order to later portray them through my acting.
What motivates you in your everyday life, and who inspires you?
I am inspired by my little family. My wife can do everything I cannot, and she is just so cool! My son teaches me something new every single day, so I am really admired by him. Experiencing a life that comes into being and develops every day, it motivates and inspires me.
How would you describe your style?
Imagine a classic suit combined with a pink tracksuit… It is important for me to feel comfortable in what I wear. I often wear jewelleries as I like to add a twist to the classic look with jewelleries and other accessories. I really like colours too; it can get a bit boring and grey in Denmark.
I do not really think that my style can be defined. It always depends on where I am and what I am doing. I am a bit of a chameleon when it comes to dressing and I can wear everything from all black to a pink sweatshirt combined with leather pants and chunky boots, but I always wear something from Matinique. I especially love your jackets.
