When did you believe in yourself the most?
I mostly believe in myself, so doubt rarely finds fertile ground. However, the moments when I believe in myself the most are when I have truly stumbled, veered off course, and gone astray, because I know that I will find my way back.
Which Matinique item in your wardrobe holds a special story - and why?
Right now, it's the khaki chinos. They are more than perfect. Airy and soft, and you can wear them for any occasion. They have been to summer parties, sailing trips, horseback riding, the opera, bike rides, and have had McDonald’s washed off. They can do it all, which is why they have a special place in the wardrobe.
How can clothing express your personality?
It is the first bastion one sees. The first line of defence. The first thing we use to show the world who we are, or perhaps more correct; who we want to be. If I see a leather jacket in a movie like Here Comes Bronson, I can think about it for weeks. Not necessarily because I want to look like a white man from the 30s, but because I want a touch of what it means to be as cool as Bronson. However, it's important to perhaps take a look in the mirror before jumping on the ’cool’ bandwagon so that we don't all end up looking the same.
What do you dream of?
I dream of being able to step away from the job market at the age of 45 and write all the books I feel rumbling inside me.
